Transportation Division

The Transportation Division seeks to ensure the safe & efficient movement of buses, cyclists, pedestrians, cars and goods within the City. The main strategies pursued in this regard include the:

  • optimising mobility for all across the network 
  • influencing travel demand patterns and choice to support the development of an integrated and sustainable transport system

 This is achieved by the:

  • Management of road closures and traffic diversions
  • Provision of parking facilities for cars, buses & coaches, cyclists, taxis & commercial vehicles loading & unloading
  • Design, installation & maintenance of traffic signals, pedestrian crossings, RTPI signs, VMS sigs etc
  • Maintenance of public lights
  • Promotion of Road Safety
  • Promotion of sustainable transport modes

Smith Street: Full closure currently in place from the junction of Phoenix Street to the junction of South Mall  to facilitate the redevelopment of No.85 South Mall (PJ Hegarty Construction)  – ** this closure will remain in place until October 2018 **

North Monastery Road: Lane restriction currently in operation to facilitate works as part of the Gerald Griffin Street Housing Enabling Works Scheme (BAM)

Grattan Street: Road closure northbound currently in place from the junction of Peters Street to Henry Street facilitate footpath works as part of the City Centre Public Transport Improvement Scheme (MGOS), diversion in place

Lower Glanmire Road: Lane restriction currently in operation outbound from the junction of Trafalgar Hill to facilitate watermain installation (Coffey Northumbrian Ltd.), expect delays

Meade Street: Full closure currently in place between the junction of Sullivan’s Quay and the junction of Cove Street to facilitate the redevelopment of the site of the former Revenue Commissioners office building on Sullivan’s Quay (BAM), **please be advised that this closure will remain in place until Friday 4th May 2018**

St. Marys Road: Full closure in place from 1930hrs – 0200hrs from the junction of Cathedral Road to the junction of Gerald Griffin Avenue to facilitate the installation of red resin at the junction of Gerald Griffin Street (MGOS), diversion in place

Nano Nagle Twilight Procession:

Road closures will be in place to facilitate this event – roads will close at 1815hrs & will reopen at 1845hrs approximately
